Take a Snow Day in Billings
January 03, 2017

When it comes to winter, Montana knows how to do it. Billings is no exception to that. And, with 20+ inches of snow on the ground to date, Mother Nature is on our side this year.

One of my favorite winter activities is skiing. Red Lodge is just an hour drive from Billings and the skiing doesn’t disappoint! Many Montana ski resorts cost over a hundred dollars for a day on the mountain, while Red Lodge charges half that. Throw in no lift lines, wide open hills and variety, and a snow day on Red Lodge Mountain is almost always perfect!

An hour drive isn’t the only way to enjoy winter in Billings. Those 20+ inches of snow I mentioned? They’ve made for some pretty awesome cross country skiing along Billings sandstone bluffs called the Rimrocks. For a more traditional setting cross country skiers will enjoy the many parks across the community – which double as exceptional sledding spots. Pioneer Park, a large historical park in the center of town with exceptional hills, is one of my favorite sledding places.

If you aren’t an outdoor enthusiast, there is still plenty to do in snowy Billings. Try out one of our many cozy cafés and coffee shops. MoAv Coffee  on Montana Avenue or Rock Creek Coffee on Broadway offer classic views of historic downtown Billings. And, north Broadway is one of my favorite places in town; I enjoy breakfast at Bernie’s followed by a stroll through downtown for shopping and maybe a stop at a gallery. Whatever I’m doing, it’s always extra beautiful while the snow is falling.

Warming up with a glass of wine while painting a picture is another favorite winter activity. The Buffalo Jump Sip n’ Paint  gives you to opportunity to create your own masterpiece while enjoying a glass of wine. If you have a group of people looking for something new, I recommend the Grand Escape Room. A real life escape challenge that requires you to work with your team to escape from the locked room. Challenge yourselves to solve all the clues and escape, you won’t be disappointed!

Any parent can attest to the cabin fever kids suffer from caused by the winter season. But, there are some really great indoor options for kiddos in Billings as well. Check out Get Air Trampoline park or the Reef Indoor Water Park in the Big Horn Resort. Both will help burn some energy from any kiddo and may even be fun for the adults, too. The Art of Play is great for the littler kids looking to play while the Wise Wonders Children’s Museum will engage the minds and bodies of kids of all ages.

With Snow much to do, plan your snowcation in Billings today!
