Ryniker-Morrison Art Gallery Opening Reception for Art Exhibit "Candace Forrette"

The Ryniker-Morrison Gallery will present “I, Thou” a solo exhibit of artist Candace Forrette, October 5-November 3, 2017. An opening reception honoring Candace Forrette will take place in the gallery on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The public is cordially invited to attend.
“I am interested in two ancient art mediums, smoke fired ceramics and encaustic. Both have served decorative and utilitarian purposes for thousands of years. Both involve natural materials and heat processes. My exploration has lead me to incorporate a variety of other natural materials, notably copper, muscovite and paper into both mediums. Both mediums intrigue me because I can coax the results but in the end it is the process that presents me with something of its own.”
This current body of work produced by Candace Forrette is informed by her feelings for and observations of the land. The somewhat minimal yet made-by-hand qualities of the work relate to the landscape and our place in that space. The use of minimal form and the repetition of elements, both two and three dimensional, allows for a space of both meditation and reflection. Using mica “firefly” components, she has also created a temporary installation, “The Evening Fireflies” which complements the exhibition in both materials used and in continuation of the exploration of content.
Candace Forrette’s educational background includes a Diploma in Fine Arts (Sculpture Emphasis) from the Art Institute in Boston, and a BFA (Sculpture) and MFA (Sculpture with Drawing minor) from Utah State University. She has participated in both solo and group exhibitions locally and regionally including the Yellowstone Art Museum, Nicolaysen Art Museum, Emerson Center, Northcutt Steele Gallery, and the South Dakota Art Museum.
The Ryniker-Morrison Gallery is located in Tech Hall on the campus of Rocky Mountain College, 1511 Poly Drive. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Closed on school holidays. For more information contact Sally McIntosh at [email protected]
