But it’s also the people who go against the grain and believe that normal just isn’t good enough. People who crave boldness and authenticity, rather than settling for the same old. Billings was built on that outsider spirit. That despite appearances and naysayers, no climb was too steep. No trail was too rocky. No burger was too juicy. On the idea that staying true to our roots is more important than fitting in with everyone and everything else. That’s what is great about Billings. We’ve been authentic Montana since 1882. And maybe that makes us the outsiders of the bunch. Not sure about you, but that’s just fine with us. Because as we say:

on the rims
The Rimrocks, or 'Rims,' are iconic, 70-million-year-old sandstone cliffs that surround Billings and are your first taste of unencumbered Montana terrain upon arriving. The Rims have fueled adrenaline junkies for decades with ample opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and climbing. The Rims also are easily accessible for strollers, dogs-walkers or morning walks with friends to see the sunrise.

EXPLORE the billings brew TRAIL
The Billings Brew Trail treats hikers to the locally crafted, Montana-inspired goodness of 11 breweries, three distilleries, plus a cider mill and a winery. Many stops on the trail are located in close proximity along a 1.5-mile loop through the historic downtown.
A RICH STORY UNFOLDS.
The region surrounding Billings boasts historic landmarks that tell the history of southeastern Montana. Visit Pompeys Pillar National Monument to examine the only remaining physical evidence of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Or peek into ancient caves to observe evidence of early civilizations at Pictograph Cave State Park.

There are many ways to explore outside in Montana. Sometimes it's in the car. Sometimes it's in a kayak. No matter how you like to immerse yourself in a destination, there's a path for you.
