Yellowstone Kelly Interpretive Site
The Yellowstone Kelly Interpretive Site in Billings honors the remarkable life of Luther Sage “Yellowstone” Kelly, a legendary frontiersman, scout and soldier. Located along Chief Black Otter Trail, the site offers stunning views of the Yellowstone River Valley and Rimrocks while sharing the story of one of Montana’s most colorful historical figures.

Kelly lived a life of adventure as a soldier, hunter, explorer and writer, forging ties with well-known figures like Buffalo Bill and President Theodore Roosevelt. His final wish was to be buried overlooking Montana’s landscape, and this site fulfills that request.
Today, visitors can walk among interpretive displays that highlight Kelly’s extraordinary experiences and lasting legacy, all within a quiet outdoor setting.
