During her 13 years as Executive Director of Visit Billings, Alex played a pivotal role in shaping the future of tourism in our community. From strengthening the Billings Tourism Business Improvement District to elevating Billings as a premier sports tourism destination, her leadership helped lay the foundation for continued growth, investment and opportunity. Her commitment to building meaningful partnerships, attracting major events and championing the potential of Billings continues to influence the community today.
Now serving as Vice President of Enterprise Communications and Integration at Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA), Alex exemplifies the spirit of this award, named in honor of longtime Billings historian and community advocate Kevin Kooistra. Like Kevin, Alex believed deeply in the power of community, the importance of collaboration and the extraordinary potential of Billings.
The Kevin Kooistra Award for Tourism Excellence was established in 2025 in honor of Kevin Kooistra’s lasting contributions to Billings and Yellowstone County, this award recognizes an individual who demonstrates
exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to advancing tourism. Recipients embody Kevin’s passion for community, dedication to visitor experiences, and belief in tourism as a driver of economic vitality and community pride.
