outdoor recreation

There's a reason that Billings is called Montana's Trailhead: your opportunities to make your way in the great outdoors are almost limitless. So grab your gear and find yourself in Montana.

Adventure Whitewater, Inc. - "Red Lodge's Rafting Co." is a rafting company specializing in personal trips, owned by Marek Rosin who has over 28 years of experience as a professional whitewater guide. Adventure Whitewater is certainly qualified to provide you with the whitewater adventure that will be the highlight of your Montana vacation. We have been featured on ESPN and Outdoor Life Network and have also been featured in the pages of Canoe & Kayak, Outside and National Geographic magazines. Our professional guides are hired not only for their expert river skills, but equally for their outstanding personalities and positive attitudes, and are trained in first aid and river rescue techniques.

We take a different approach to rafting - FUN FIRST! - with a definite emphasis on Safety, which is reflected by our perfect safety record. Simply put, our guides are known as the funniest and most professional river guides on the Stillwater River. We love our "office" and would love to share it with you. If you want to play and have an adventure you will long remember, then join us for the most exciting part of your Montana vacation!

Adventure Whitewater's trips travel down the Stillwater River which begins its journey high in the Beartooth-Absaroka Wilderness. Misnamed by Lewis and Clark who must have discovered one of the few quiet spots, this stunning river flows freely to the mighty Yellowstone River. The Stillwater meanders through a one-sided canyon which was once the home of the Crow Indians and majestic buffalo. Whitewater and Montana's highest mountain peaks abound. Watch for jumping trout, bear, deer and other wildlife on this beautiful, wild river.

Immerse yourself in the relaxing surroundings of Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. The canyon offers a diversified landscape of forest, mountains, upland prairie, deep canyons, broad valleys, high desert, lake and wetlands. Since the creation of the recreation area, people have been able to find tranquil settings to better explore recreation, nature, wildlife, and history.

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area was established by an act of Congress on October 15, 1966, following the construction of the Yellowtail Dam by the Bureau of Reclamation. This dam, named after the famous Crow chairman Robert Yellowtail, harnessed the waters of the Bighorn River and turned this variable stream into a magnificent lake.

Bighorn Lake extends approximately 71 miles through Wyoming and Montana, 55 miles of which are held within spectacular Bighorn Canyon. The Recreation Area is composed of 120,000+ acres, which straddles the northern Wyoming and southern Montana borders. There are two visitor centers and other developed facilities in Fort Smith, Montana and near Lovell, Wyoming. The Afterbay Lake below the Yellowtail Dam is a good spot for trout fishing and wildlife viewing for ducks, geese and other animals. The Bighorn River below the Afterbay Dam is a world class trout fishing area.
