Your Perfect Summer Weekend Itinerary in Billings, Montana

May 29, 2026

Nowhere does summer weekends quite like Billings. There’s a certain buzz that just can’t be replicated. The long, hot days, the anticipation of whatever adventure the day might bring, and everyone – yes, everyone – is itching to be outside as much as possible, rain or shine. Steal this summer itinerary for your next weekend in Billings.

Perfect for late May (Memorial Day) through early September (Labor Day).

FRIDAY EVENING

Of course, summer nights wouldn’t be summer nights without a Billings Mustangs Baseball Game at Dehler Park. So, we’re starting the weekend with some ballgame snacks (get the Dehler dog…trust us), a stunning sunset behind the Rimrocks, and some family fun.

Make sure to check the schedule to see if the Mustangs are home while you’re in town. If they are, don’t miss the chance to cheer them on!

SATURDAY

Saturday, we’re hitting the road for some of the most stunning road trip views and panoramic overlooks you’ll ever see along the Beartooth Highway. Drive through the mountain town of Red Lodge, just an hour southwest of Billings, before climbing to the summit on winding switchbacks past more than 20 mountain peaks, wildflower meadows, wildlife, and unforgettable views.

Weather permitting – always check road conditions before traveling! Season typically runs from late May through mid-October.

When you’ve seen as many stunning mountain peaks as you can for one day (seriously, there’s over 20!), head back to town for dinner in downtown Billings at Walkers Grill. Chef Nick Steen, a James Beard Award nominee, delivers the culinary artistry, craft cocktails, and ambience that culminates the perfect trifecta for an iconic summer evening out.

After dinner, catch a movie just a couple blocks away at Art House Cinema & Pub.

This independent movie theater, complete with a full-service pub (yup, that means you can sip beer or wine during the film), is the perfect place to catch a blockbuster, indie film, or cult classic for a fun and casual night out.

SUNDAY

Sunday, we’re starting early with a sunrise hike up at Zimmerman Park. Not only will you beat the summer heat, but you’ll also get to watch the sky light up from atop Billings’ most iconic landmarks – the Rimrocks.

Zimmerman Park

With several routes and trail options, Zimmerman Park takes you right to the edge of the sandstone cliffs, where you can look out over the city as the first light of the day hits Billings.

Then head down to Roots Garden Center, because when your coffee spot is in a greenhouse, your morning coffee looks like this:

With plants, coffee, local art, and Montana-made merchandise, it’s all too easy to lose yourself in this neighborhood nursery’s cozy, friendly atmosphere.

After sipping your coffee and doing a little (okay, a lot) of perusing, we’re heading back outside to enjoy the summer weather at Pioneer Park.

Pioneer Park

Just west of Billings’ historic neighborhoods, Pioneer Park is the perfect spot to unwind in the shade, bring the family to the playground, play disc golf, pack a picnic, and maybe even take a nap (hey, we won’t judge).

For dinner, head over to The Divide Bar & Grill for dinner and drinks on their spacious covered patio.

Finish up the day right outside at the Shiloh Conservation Area, a 66-acre recreation area with more than 2 miles of paved paths winding past ponds, wetlands, and interpretive signs highlighting the nature around you.

Shiloh Conservation Area

A beautiful spot to catch the sunset, where runners squeeze in a few last miles, families wander the paths on evening walks, and couples linger for golden hour before the sun finally calls it a night.
